In Memory of Katie Strunk

Many of you knew Katie Strunk. She lost her life yesterday in the tornado that hit Enterprise High School. We were made aware of this late yesterday afternoon, but didn't feel we should announce it on this blog or send a mass email until the School Administration had the chance to announce it to the kids today and send out an email.

Katie played clarinet in the ACA Marching Band and Symphonic Band. Katie always had a smile on her face and was a pleasant child to be around! She will be sorely missed.

Katie's funeral will be at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, March 5th. They are dismissing any High School students at noon that want to attend her funeral. The viewing is at 1:00 p.m. (Due to this tragedy, the band photo that was to be taken on Monday has been cancelled).

Dirk and Kathy Strunk need our help. They did not have any kind of life insurance on Katie and have no money for the burial. Any donations would be greatly appreciated.

The donations are to be sent to:
College Avenue Church of Christ (where the funeral will be)
211 W. College Avenue
(or use the P.O. Box 311740)
Enterprise, AL 36330
Phone: (334) 347-8917

Please designate for "Katie Strunk funeral" and help get the word out to as many people as possible. Every little bit helps. If you are unable to donate, please continue to keep this family in your prayers.

Band Announcements!

We trust each one of you had a wonderful Christmas and enjoyed the holiday break. It always seems to go by so fast and then it's time to put the decorations away and make those New Year's Resolutions! Ugh! You know, the ones we usually end up breaking by the 3rd or 4th week of January?! Most resolutions are about not doing something and when we eventually do what we were avoiding, we end up feeling like failures. I was reading an article that focused on making resolutions to do things, instead of not doing things. I thought that was a great approach to the New Year, one in which we all can benefit from. How about making resolutions to do more random acts of kindness, or to let our loved ones know on a daily basis how much they are loved, or thanking our educators and military for their service and dedication. Maybe you could resolve to volunteer more this year or choose to be a member of the Band Boosters and give, not only of your time, but of your finances as well. Each one of us makes a difference and no amount is too small and no time volunteering is taken for granted. Remember, Together We Achieve Much and we are so blessed to be a part of this wonderful Band family at ACA!

Below are a few announcements Mr. Harrell asked me to send out this evening...

All-State Auditions
Friday is the last day to sign up for All-State auditions. There is a $5 fee per student to audition. The auditions will be on January 27th at Opelika High School.

Chair Auditions
Chair auditions will begin tomorrow (Friday) and continue throughout the week next week. Parents, please encourage your child to practice...practice...practice!

Pep Band
The pep band will be performing Thursday and Friday nights. The students will need to be at the Band Room no later than 5:10 p.m. to get their instruments.

After-School Rehearsals
Reminder: the percussion ensemble rehearses each Monday after school and the jazz band rehearses each Tuesday after school. If you have any questions, please call Mr. Stough or Mr. Harrell at the school, 277-1985.

Thank you, again, for allowing us to serve you and the entire ACA Band program as your Booster Presidents. We look forward to a great rest of the year!
