This Week's Announcements...

Away game this Friday, September 1st
ACA vs. Escambia County High School, Atmore, AL
The bus will be leaving the school at approximately 2:45 p.m. Students will need to make sure they have the following:

  • $10 Transportation Fee
  • Garment Bag with Uniform Pants/Coat
  • Shako (hat) with box
  • Black Socks
  • Black Gloves
  • Band T-Shirt
  • Black Band Shoes
Students who are missing any part of the uniform (ex: wearing white socks instead of black, etc.) will be suspended from that performance and their grade will suffer as a result.

We will be stopping in Evergreen for a dinner break. Students need to bring enough money for dinner and snacks (concessions) at the game. Bottled water and a snack during 3rd Quarter will be provided to the students by the Band Boosters. There will not be a food stop on the way home. Buses will not leave to come home until the Equipment Truck has been loaded and all students are accounted for.

If you are riding home with your parents from the game, your parents MUST personally SIGN YOU OUT with Mr. Harrell and sign his bus list indicating they are taking you home. Estimated time of arrival back at ACA is between 12:00 a.m. - 1:00 a.m. Students will be instructed to call home once we've departed Escambia County High School and give a more accurate time of arrival at ACA. Please make sure you are on time to pick up your child. We will be tired and ready to go home, so please do us the courtesy of being on time to pick up your child and we will do our best to arrive at the time stated. There will be several chaperones on each bus, including Gary and Tracey Kirksey. Their cell phone numbers are 462-3368 and 462-3369 in case of an emergency.

Directions to the game won't be available until Wednesday in the School Office. Please call or stop by the school office to pick up directions if you are driving to the game.

Black Band Gloves
The band gloves will be in on Wednesday and will be distributed during 7th period. Please make sure your child has $5 for his/her band gloves. If you have already paid for the band gloves, it has been noted by your child's name. If you have any questions, please email Tracey Kirksey at traceykirksey@knology.net or acabands@yahoo.com.

Transportation Fee
Please make sure your child has his/her $10 transportation fee. It must be given to Gary or Tracey Kirksey before boarding the bus so their name can be checked off the list. If you have already turned in the transportation fee, it has been noted by their name.

The Band T-shirts should be in either Thursday afternoon or Friday. They will be distributed to each student before Friday's game. Please make sure you have paid your $10 for the t-shirt. If you need more information, please email Elizabeth Staten at EPoohStaten@aol.com.

Mom and baby are doing fine at Baptist South and Daddy is very proud! A.J. joins brother, Dex, and sister, Sandy, as the newest member of the Harrell family! We are so happy for you! Check out the pictures below...

Friday Night Update:
The band will be playing in the stands at the game this Friday, August 25th. The kids are to be there 1 1/2 hours before game time (I think it starts at 7:00 p.m., but will confirm with the school office tomorrow). They will not be marching the half-time show, but will be playing in the stands. New info. on attire...They are to wear a maroon school polo (if the band shirts are not in) and khaki shorts or pants.

Transportation Fee Approved:
We received word from Mr. Sewell that the Board approved the Transportation Fee proposal that the Band Boosters presented. The new fee will be $10 per student, per "away" game or competition. This fee will only help alleviate some of the costs of the chartered buses. You can either pay the fee ahead of time in one lump sum (5 trips) or each student can turn in their $10 before boarding the bus to either Tracey Kirksey or Elizabeth Staten. If this fee will create a hardship on anyone, please see Gary or Tracey Kirksey and it will be handled with the utmost privacy. Scholarships are available as needed.

More information will be coming in the next few days regarding our first away game on Friday, September 1st to Escambia County High School in Atmore, Alabama. If you have any questions, problems, concerns or suggestions, please don't hesitate to email Gary or Tracey Kirksey at acabands@yahoo.com or traceykirksey@knology.net.

Rehearsal Schedule Next Week!

The marching band will have full "after school" rehearsal on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday of next week, August 21st, 22nd and 24th until 5:30 p.m. This is to take advantage of every opportunity to set more drill and prepare for the first game on Friday, August 25th.

The game on Friday is a "pre-season" Home game. The band will not be performing the half-time show, but they will be playing in the stands. IF the T-shirts come in before Friday, August 25th, the attire will be the band t-shirt and khaki shorts/pants (or any school uniform bottoms). If the T-shirts do not arrive in time, the attire will be any school uniform.

We will post more information as we receive it. Don't forget your water bottles!

Band Booster Membership Drive!

Thank you to all who attended our Kick-off supper last night! We had 11 new memberships by the end of the evening which puts us at a total of 44 families out of 118 band families... 37%.

We are not quite where we want to be with 100% MEMBERSHIP! Every little bit helps! Even if you would like to donate $20 or $20 per month. We have creative ways you can contribute to the ACA Band Program. As you saw last night, it takes over $35,000 to operate the ACA Band which is mostly funded by the Boosters. Will you consider joining Boosters as part of the band family?

Each family that joins the ACA Band Boosters will receive a maroon & white Rooter Pom (Shakers) and your name will be featured on the back of the Band Program distributed at the "Home" football games.

Please take a moment to fill out your Booster Membership form and make your donation. Remember...Together We Achieve Much!

Order Forms will be sent home with your student on Monday and we will also send one in an email to ensure that you receive it. Orders will be taken for two weeks. Tuesday's Announcements!

WATER...WATER...and MORE WATER!

Students must bring a personal water bottle or thermos type cooler to practices on Tuesdays and Thursdays. We will have the large coolers full of ice water for them to refill their personal water bottle during drink breaks---but we will not have individual cups available. We cannot stress enough the importance of drinking lots of water!!! Mr. Harrell (our Marching Band Director) says the kids need to drink water all day, even at lunch, on the days they have marching rehearsal after school.

TUESDAY and THURSDAY SCHEDULES ~ PLEASE NOTE!
Some students have complained about not having enough time to get to their lockers and then over to the Band Room by 7th period. Mr. Harrell says on Tuesdays and Thursdays, GO TO YOUR LOCKER FIRST and get your bookbags, any homework or books you might need, your practice clothes, etc. and then come to the Band Room and get ready for rehearsal. He understands that there are some that might be a few minutes late. This is okay---just get your items and get over to the Band Room as quickly as possible.
Practice on Tuesday and Thursday will last until 5:30 p.m. Remember, bring your water bottle!

Last Call for Chick-fil-A Supper/Band Preview Tickets!
You should be receiving a call this evening from a "phone tree" member regarding the Chick-fil-A supper and band t-shirts. We have extended the deadline to Wednesday (yes, we are giving you a grace period!), because we want to include as many parents and family members as possible. STUDENTS in the Band DO need to purchase a ticket if they are eating! Please email acabands@yahoo.com or traceykirksey@knology.net to make your reservation.

If you have any questions, comments, or suggestions, please give Gary or Tracey a call at 396-2799 or email acabands@yahoo.com or traceykirksey@knology.net. If you have any complaints, email Mr. Harrell.......Just Kidding! Just wanted to see if you would read to the end!

We look forward to seeing you Tuesday, August 15th at 5:45 p.m. for our kick-off!

It's back to school time already!
